One Year Ago

I did not sleep well at all last night and I don't think that the cause was weather related either. Sure it was warm, but the fan was aimed at the bed and I really didn't have much reason to complain about the temperature. I just couldn't sleep and I don't know why. So at three this morning, I just got out of bed, went to the living room and read my Aldrin book for about an hour.

Sleep didn't happen instantly when I returned to bed. All that I could do was just lie there and hope that I would fall asleep. Not much was going through my mind either. I was in a sort of mental limbo. Naturally when the alarm did go off, I was just starting to fall back asleep. In my half asleep state I had a rather strange dream. About the only thing that I remember about the dream was that Neve Campbell was in it. The rest of the details are lost.

That time of day between night and day is so peaceful, but odd at the same time. The sky has a very alien light to it. I used to be very familiar with this part of the day when I worked third shift, but that was nearly a year ago.

What is even more strange is that I know exactly what I was doing a year ago. Last year on this day the building where I work flooded. What was supposed to be the end of a normal twelve hour shift, became a twenty hour adventure that ended with my car being flooded. In the span of one night, I saw all of the lights go out in the building, the halon in the computer room discharge and water fill the building to a height of about two feet. Until all of this happened I didn't quite understand the amount of damage that a flash flood could do in a span of a few hours. Now I know better.

Well, obviously the company survived the flood, but I wonder if I would have better off if it hadn't.

All that I wanted to do when I got to work was regain the hours of sleep that I had lost a few hours earlier. I try to be positive about work, but the moment that enter the building I just want to turn around and leave. Being tired does not improve my overall attitude.
