she called

Last night I fell asleep at around eight o'clock. I woke up once at two, but didn't get out of bed until four in the morning. Once I was awake I checked my phone for messages. There was one new message and it was from Brenda.

I'm not sure what to say here.

I can't really say when was the last time that I heard from her, but I knew her voice the moment I heard it. The message was brief and to the point. She just wanted to see how I was doing and figured that I must be sleeping before I went to work.

I have no idea what I would have said if I had been awake and answered the phone.

The sound of her voice at four in the morning was not something that I expected to hear. I had almost reconciled myself to the fact that I would never hear that voice again. Usually I never have any contact with the women who I have been involved with after we go our separate ways. Maybe I really am maturing.
