last minute planning

When I woke this morning, it was to escape from my dream. It seems that a group of people were removing license plates from cars in a parking lot. Then when a friend and I found their cache of plates, they didn't appreciate it. Soon they were chasing us with knives across the parking lot. Thankfully I woke before they caught us.

I have no idea why I dreamt this scene or what it might mean, but it wasn't the first time that I have seen this motif in a dream. There have been other dreams where a parking lot was the setting for violence.

Sometimes I am one unorganized little monkey and it gave me a small amount of panic this afternoon. Oh, I got the airplane tickets early enough, but I didn't bother trying to make hotel reservations for my stay in Nova Scotia next week until today. I was getting worried when the first few places that I called said that they could only give me part of the days that I requested. Each hotel was booked either the first or the second half of my stay. The idea of having to change hotels in the middle of my trip did not appeal to me so I kept on looking until I found one that could keep me for the entire time.

All of this is in keeping with the way I operate. I tend to do things at the last minute and say that I am being spontaneous.

I decided to go with a hotel instead of a bed and breakfast. I kept having a fear that the people running the place might be a little strange and I'm not sure I want to deal with something like that when I am on vacation. I also wonder how I would react to the morning breakfast with strangers. So I might have cheated myself out of some local charm, but I think that I will feel more secure in a hotel.

My next goal is to have a rough itinerary completed in the next few days. On the one hand I don't want to spend a whole day there trying to figure out what I want to do, but I also want to leave my plans a little open ended.

So far I think that I'll spend the first two or three days exploring the city. Since the city itself is only about half the size of Milwaukee getting around shouldn't be a problem for me. Then once I tire of the urban sights, I'll head out into the country for a few days. I might even just drive along the coast of the province for a day.

I'm not really sure what to expect. The last time that I was there was over a decade ago and most of that was camping on the northern end of the province. Now I can do and see whatever I want since I am my own guide.

Without a doubt this trip is going to cost me far more than my trip to California earlier this year. When I went there, I had places to stay and people to show me around. Now everything is up to me.

Despite the small of amount of sunburn on my back, I am still about two shades darker than I was before Sunday. I'm still not sure how only my back got burned, because my face and arms are fine. Nor do I know whether or not I will peel.
