dead water heater

Despite the fact that it was a holiday weekend, I did my best to stay on a third shift schedule for the past two nights and for the most part I was successful. The post midnight hours were either spent online or reading and they passed by quickly. It all seemed completely natural to me.

The part where I made a mistake was in falling asleep at five in the morning. Instead of getting an early start on the day, I ended up sleeping until past ten in the morning. My sudden unwanted naps caused me to miss out on seeing the sunrise or being able to do some kind of early morning activity. My head start on the day was lost. Another downside is that both times I fell asleep on the couch, I somehow managed to have some of the worst dreams.

Quite often I'll have a day where I don't speak to anyone until I get to work at night and today was one of them. There weren't any phone calls and I only left the house twice so any contact with people was limited. It was rather nice. Of course starting up a conversation when I get to work seems a little odd at first since I haven't spoken to anyone all day.

I often wonder what it would be like to not speak with anyone for a week or a month.

Although I have yet to get an official pronouncement, I believe that my hot water heater has finally died. Ever since Mark and Vickie moved out, it hasn't been working right. For weeks now when I wake up in the afternoon, there won't be any hot water. So as a quick fix, I walk down into the basement and reset some switch in the heater by unplugging it and then plugging it back into the wall. I'd say that this happens about once a week, but today it didn't work when I performed my ritual.
