I went to Virgin Records today and got Kylie Minogue's Greatest Hits - a collection of her Australian singles from the late eighties and early nineties. We were driving to the grocery store, listening to my new CD, when - God help me - The Loco-Motion came on. "In high school, Sonya," I told the Wife, "I was dumb, heavy metal mullet-wearing Harold - and I loved this song. I thought two things: one, this song is catchy as hell, and two, she is fuckin' hot. I'd run to the TV when the video came on. "Several times I carried the CD - or the tape - around a record store, but I never got it. I just couldn't square buying it with the person that I was. "I feel so liberated now." |
