lady of the lake Early this morning, I dreamt that I was back in college and that the dorm that I was living in had some kind of fire. As to what this is supposed to mean to me, I have no idea. What was more interesting to me were the guest appearances by people in the dream. Usually my dreams are filled with imaginary people, but this time it was different. Carli from House of the Moon was there and so was the actress Sarah Polley from the movies Go and The Sweet Hereafter. Actually I haven't met either of these women. Nor can I say that I know them. A year ago when I went to California, I was going to try to meet Carli, but it didn't happen due to time constraints. I did, however, get to speak with her on the phone and bother her while she was at work. No, she was not bellydancing in my dream. From what I can remember, she was a resident assistant. Today was definitely a geek day for me. It started in the morning and continued on through the rest of the day as I switched from one genre to another. In the morning I watched my copy of the John Boorman film Excalibur, where I am always amazed at the incredible cast. We get to see early appearances by Gabriel Byrne, Liam Neeson and Patrick Stewart before they were better known in other roles. Besides these actors, I love the cinematography of the film itself. There is so much brutality and beauty in the film at the same time, but they seem to balance one another. Finally there is the final scene when Percival throws Excalibur back into the lake. It sounds cheesy, but it really works for me as he runs back to Arthur only to see him being taken away on a ship. Then later in the afternoon I switched to another set of tales from England. I downloaded the trailer for Lord of the Rings and was mildly upset when I couldn't save the clip. From what I saw it looks okay and I'll probably go to see all three of them. Unfortunately the first one doesn't get released until next year. To end the day, I watched part of Phantom Menace with Jose and Steve tonight. I wasn't that surprised that Jose bought it, but he seems to be the only person that I know that has bought it. As for whether or not I'll buy a copy, I haven't made up my mind yet. Late tonight my brother and I finally talked about our trip. We now have the dates and some of the places that we both want to see chosen and I feel much better now about the trip. In his defense I should mention that he has been pretty busy with work and trying to get accepted into graduate school. Actually he gave his formal acceptance today to a school in Illinois. Of course this means that I'll have to go back to school to get my masters degree. Putting any sibling rivalry aside, I am seriously thinking about taking a class this fall. I need something more in my life than what my job has to offer me. I want to get back into the academic setting and just learn for the sake of learning. Then there is the prospect of expanding my social circle which is certainly an added bonus that I'll appreciate.
