Michelangelo sibyl from the Sistine Chapel

discussing poetic tradition

Yesterday when I walked into my house after work, there was a chill in the air. I even briefly considered closing the windows before I went to sleep. Today that all changed. Over the course of the night the humidity returned and I was forced to turn on the air conditioning once again.

I wouldn't mind so much except for the fact that these extreme changes in temperature wreak havoc on my sinus passages. Suddenly I can't breathe and I hate it. Yesterday I was fine and now I'm not.

While I was listening to the classical music station this morning, I had heard this piece of music that I knew but couldn't place. I kept saying to myself what would happen next. At first it was okay now it should pick up the tempo a little and then it did. Soon I knew that the grand finale was about to happen. Then they finally announced what had been a mystery piece up until then to me. It was music from the movie Rebel Without a Cause. It's been years since I last saw that movie, but I still knew the music.

No matter how many times that I see that movie, I still find it to be very odd. Someone had to tell me that Dean's character was drunk in the beginning, because I never quite got was he was doing in that scene. Seeing Jim Backus in that kitchen apron bothered me, but Natalie Wood and her bullet bra however worked just fine for me.

Work threw me a curve before I left this morning. They actually let me see some new software that we are going to be using soon. What this means is that I might be called upon to do something new in my job. Suddenly the ever elusive carrot has been moved a little closer.

For the longest time my boss had been mentioning these wonderful new products to me, but I was convinced that it was all pep talk. Now I am starting to believe that it might happen sometime in the near future. The projected date that we were given was the first of November and I curious to see if they stick with that date.

Last week Ann said that the two of us should go out to see a movie. In response I jokingly mentioned that we should go see Bring It On, to which she replied that as long as there are women jumping around in short skirts, I'll be happy. I said that it certainly doesn't hurt. First it was the Irish dancers and now it might be some cheerleaders.

My second day of class went better than the first. I am slowing learning how much time I need to get to the campus and managed to park closer than I did on Tuesday. I may have to walk a few blocks, but at least I get to park for free and I don't have to take the bus. Mass transit was okay when I was in Europe, but here I at home I prefer to use my car.

The twenty minute commute takes me through me parts of the city that are completely new to me and this tends to make the ride that much more interesting. Some of them are nicer than others, but that is always the case with a major city.

Since I had some time to spare before class, I sat outside on the grass where I watched the other students walk by and enjoyed the wonderful weather. For the most part the students seem to be the same as when I was an undergraduate except for the fact that so many of them have cell phones.
