almost winter here I drove to the east side of Milwaukee for the last time this year. It was a nice enough ride and something that I will miss the next few weeks. There were a few things different this time though. First of all there was no hurry. All that I had to do was drop off my final paper and take home another one of mine that had already been graded. The deadline for handing in the paper was five in the afternoon. I was there at quarter to noon. Besides not having to hurry, the weather was perfect for a drive along the lake with the sun shining on the fairly calm water. As I drove by I could see a variety of people were out by the beach. Among the assortment were people walking, joggers and people on roller blades. They all seemed to know that these days will get more and more rare as the year comes to an end. ... On campus today I did something that falls either into the mildly psychotic or the extremely desperate category, I'm not sure which at this point. I wrote a small note on Mattie's paper asking her to call me so that we could get together sometime. Yes, she knows who I am so it isn't as though I grabbed her off the street and harassed her. Besides I was going to ask her the last time that we spoke. Now what happens next is entirely up to her since I do not have her telephone number.
