three day weekend Late Saturday afternoon I got a very excited telephone call from my mom. She quickly explained that both her and one of my sisters had a brush with fame. At first I was supposed to guess who they had seen, but after a few wrong answers my mom soon realized that I would never get the right answer. These were not people that rank high on my pop culture radar. My sister was downtown at a bar and ran into Lance from the band Nsync. Actually she had no idea who he was when they met and I have to wonder what was said between them. Was he shocked that someone didn't know him? Did he show her his drivers license to prove his identity? Did he break into song and do some moves? I find all of it to be horribly funny and I wouldn't have had a clue as to who he was if I saw him. I also have to wonder why he was here in Milwaukee. Doesn't he have anywhere else to be? Shouldn't he be touring somewhere with the rest of the band? My mom didn't run into a boy band member. Instead she saw someone with a different kind of MTV connection. She was in the return line of a local shopping center with Julie from the Real World New Orleans edition. The girl is from the area so it wasn't as odd seeing Lance here. I believe her family still lives here and I imagine that part of the year she does as well. Naturally of the two I think that I would have rather met Julie than Lance. I also have a feeling that I would have recognized her. As to what I would have said to her is beyond me though. ... When I told Ann the story about my sister, she said that next time my sister should at least try to meet one of the better looking ones.
