changing her hair

Once again I didn't get that much sleep Wednesday night, but thankfully I didn't feel nearly as miserable at work this time around. Then later in the morning I surprised myself by making it to class on time after a power nap that was hard to shake. The urge to spend the rest of the day on the couch was so strong, but I didn't give in to it.

...

On the drive to class I finished listening to Memoirs of a Geisha and I think that made another good choice in listening material. First of all it was a nice contrast to Alias Grace, which was the last audio book that I chose.

Oh, I enjoyed both books on tape, but they were two very different worlds not only in terms of time but in culture as well. Instead of hearing about a Canadian woman accused of murder I got an inside glimpse into the world of the geisha which is something I'll probably never see firsthand in the real world. Then again I'm not sure if that world exists anymore.

As I was listening to the narration I kept wondering if the woman was of Asian descent or if they wanted her to affect that stereotypical type of accent. I couldn't tell her nationality from the tiny photo of her on the back of the cassette case and there was next to nothing about her on the web. It doesn't really matter though, because she kept the story interesting.

...

Spring has made itself known on campus as jackets have been discarded and more and more skin is being shown. Of course this makes sitting in class more of an effort when the weather beckons one to stay outside.

Amanda almost walked into me when I stepped out of the restroom at school. She gave me a quick look and kept going. As to why she was in such a hurry was beyond me. We had another five to ten minutes before class started.

As I've said before her hair is what first drew me to her and today she had it braided into a ponytail which was a new look. Except for the one time when she wore it down, she has always has it wrapped up tight. Personally I still think that she looks best with it down and I might still tell her that before the semester ends.

Before I slipped off to sleep, I let the inner geek in me take over and watched the Doctor Who episode Remembrance of the Daleks on DVD. Some might think that putting a British science fiction show notorious for its bad special effects on DVD is a waste of time, but I still love the show enough to buy them and watching them brings back memories from when I was growing up. Plus the commentaries and outtakes are well worth getting the DVD instead of going the video route.
