not beijing yet

After doing some more research this morning, I reached the unhappy conclusion that I might have to make some changes to my upcoming trip to China. Since I waited so long to finalize everything, the cost of the airfare has gone up in price from my first estimate that I got about a month ago. As to why I didn't buy the tickets back then is beyond me. I shouldn't have hesitated, but for some reason that I have now forgotten, I did. What this means is that I may have to go to Beijing later in the year and content myself with just Hong Kong and Macau in March.

This new solution isn't that devastating when I calm down and look at it logically, but it will take some adjustment on my part, because I was so looking forward to finally being able to see The Great Wall. This doesn't mean that I am completely forsaking that life long dream of mine, but it will have to wait until later this year when I can spare some more money and time. Another upside to this new split is that I will get two vacations in one year instead of just one massive one.

...

For most of the week, the daytime high temperatures have been a good ten degrees above freezing. So whenever I walk outside it feels like a heat wave to me. Sadly this sudden warming spell has taken its toll on the snow that fell back in January. Each day there is less and less in my yard and all that is left is dead grass. As I have said again and again, I prefer winter to be white and not brown, but I guess that I can't have it both ways. Either I get a magical white landscape or I get to breathe without my face hurting.
